This is another short video about world affairs on my YouTube channel (to which I invite you to subscribe). This is just a preliminary list and doesn’t cover better known impacts of Trump, such as cutting USAID and Ukraine.
Have no fear, I will continue to post longer text articles here on Substack. You can skip the videos if you don’t like that format. They’re designed for short attention spans. But I’d also welcome any comments as I try to get the videos right.
Thank you, Carne. Completely agree with your sombre analysis. I would add to both issues that we are now also in an era where so-called tactical nuclear weapons not only exist but also the willingness to use them is also on the increase. As for the environment, it is utterly shocking that Trump is pressing the accelerator on the race towards catastrophe whilst being cheered on by his circle of sycophants. These people have families, children, grandchildren, who will all have to reap what these men are sowing now. Add to this wicked brew: decreasing democracy, the rise of the autocrat, growing ignorance of the citizen, increasing populations, rich-poor divide, job losses to technology. And it's clear, as a species, we are in one hell of a hole. I did leave the dangers of AI off the list. My own opinion is that this overblown in the press and rather than be concerned about the perils of artificial intelligence in 20 years, I am more concerned with human intelligence right now. It seems to be doing a pretty good job of finishing off the species before we get anywhere near the robots taking over.
