This is helpful and hopeful Carne. I had only skimmed the resolution, distracted by the ongoing conflicts and assuming it was yet another in that long list which will be meaningless due to US (/UK) opposition. However, you have made it clear that there are significant and potentially meaningful new elements. Other than Japan supporting, are there other significant/unexpected shifts in country votes? Maybe someone has prepared a list of relevant resolutions and tracked trends in votes.
Of course as you know Palestine resolutions usually get a thumping majority in the GA. It's a great pity the EU was divided, as their vote is critical. I don't have data on voting trends I'm afraid. If you get such, do please share. Good to hear from you!
hope that this helps stop the violence and cruelty on both sides. I wonder how it can be made easier in the long run to prevent “annexation” ever being allowed far far quicker - to prevent a critical mass of people settling and as Andrew Martin said (possession 9/10ths of the law), also a large enough number of people to join together and effectively “defend” their position and spread out over time?? Surely there could be an international task force or something to tackle if this is reported to happen across the globe anywhere!??
no one will join an international task force I fear. The problem is that it is always left to Israel to decide whether to occupy or leave. That has to change.
Unfortunately, possession is nine tenths of the law, especially if you're armed to the teeth!
Yes sadly true Andrew. A succinct articulation of Israeli strategy.
