A very articulate and informative article, thank you.

I do wonder if this is part of a wider political cycle: the long status quo of Western peace and liberal democracy slowly becoming corrupt from within? The west is after so large it behaves as a “system” that like people- becomes corrupt over time (the hexaco personality test demonstrates that people in positions of power have steadily lowering honesty and integrity measures -perhaps due to diminishing returns from trying to continue to act morally)…

I feel the West has hidden, ignored and wilfully dismissed a lot of suffering. The needs and feelings of the poorest have been ignored and dismissed (perhaps explaining the rise of reform?) and it would seem their moral compass is now feebly trying to tweak a system that props up the wealthy (globalisation does appear to suppress wages of the poorest) and powerful rather than tackle its corruption or look at improving the lives of the poor. I feel very disheartened that democracy works at all! Perhaps we *need* strong men to return? Perhaps hierarchies are inevitable and necessary- are we deluded in the west that democracies can work in the way we want in the long run?? There is always censorship and oppression of some kind and now a large majority of the left oppress anyone who disagrees with their progressive ideologies…

I am interested: i appreciate from your book you believe in anarchy, but you think pseudo dictators such as Trump are an inevitable consequence of such a democratic /weak/hypocritical system over time? If so, anarchy, community democratic rule isn’t really a good solution to the problem of tyrannical theocracies or oligarchies or monarchies really either is it?? It seems there is a definite glaring advantage to having hereditary peerages in the House of Lords when there is such a conflict of interest for those who desire to be re-elected every few years!

I’m not sure I know of a better answer to what we have here in the UK-I am not convinced anarchy is it, or indeed democracy is working. It seems there is always corruption in every and any system we try. …Perhaps we can at best choose who runs our hierarchies, and just hope they are honourable and stay that way? Or build in more changes and legislate we need differences of and diversity of opinions and views (as well as background)??

How do we encourage our kids to have better moral compasses, and where do we find the role models for them to tackle this system in the future!?
